Are you passionate about affordable, community-led housing? Do you believe that homes should be owned and shaped by the people who live in them? Leeds Community Homes is looking for new board members to help guide our next chapter?
We are especially keen to hear from people with backgrounds and experiences that are underrepresented in housing and governance.
Who We Are
Leeds Community Homes (LCH) is a not-for-profit community benefit society working to create and sustain genuinely affordable homes across Leeds. We believe housing should be democratic, sustainable, and community-led. Our mission is to tackle the housing crisis by developing homes that are affordable, environmentally responsible, and owned or managed by the communities who live in them.
What We’re Looking For
We want a board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. You don’t need prior board experience — we value fresh perspectives just as much as formal qualifications. We encourage applications from people of all ages, ethnicities, abilities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and socio-economic backgrounds.
We are especially interested in hearing from people with experience or interest in:
- Community organising or grassroots activism
- affordable, community, or cooperative housing, particularly those with experience in housing management
- Finance, legal, or governance knowledge
- Development/ construction experience, particularly sustainable development
- Working with marginalised communities
- Lived experience of housing need or instability
- Existing Customers or members of Leeds Community Homes
What You’ll Do
As a board member, you’ll help shape our strategic direction, hold the organisation to account, and make key decisions about our projects. You’ll work alongside a friendly, committed team who care deeply about creating a fairer, more inclusive Leeds.
Time Commitment
Around 6 board meetings per year, plus optional involvement in working groups or specific projects. We provide induction and training, and we’re happy to support accessibility needs. Meetings are generally online but we would welcome those who are able to occasionally get involved in person.
Remuneration
Our Board of Management is voluntary but reasonable expenses incurred in connection with the role will be paid.
