With less than a week to go, we’re nearly there!

Posted by Rob Greenland.

Over the next couple of months we’ll aim to answer questions that people have asked us – on social media, at events we’ve attended etc.  If you have a question, please get in touch and we’ll answer it on here.

It’s important, if you’re considering investing, that you don’t rely on information we share in these blogposts. If you’re considering investing, please visit either our Ethex profile, or the share offer page on our website.  There you will find detailed information on the share offer, our plans, our more detailed business plan, and the Rules of Leeds Community Homes.  And of course, if you have any questions, please get in touch with us.

Our community share offer closes on Tuesday 31st January, and with six days to go people have pledged to invest nearly £305,000!

We are thrilled by the response we’ve had to the share offer.  When you do something like this, you have no idea whether people are going to respond positively or not.   But it’s fair to say that the response has been pretty overwhelming!

The investment clearly means a great deal to us – it means that we can go ahead with creating our first sixteen People Powered Homes.  But the nature of the investment – where it’s coming from – matters a lot too.

We don’t expect all of our investors to get heavily involved in what we’re doing – we anticipate that plenty of people will be happy to let us get on with things – and they’ll keep an eye on whether we achieve what we’ve set out to do.  But we’re hopeful that many of the people who’ve backed us financially will also find other ways to be part of what we’re doing.

For some, that might mean joining the Board.  For others, it might mean offering relevant skills or contacts – or perhaps continuing to help us to spread the word about People Powered Homes in the way that so many people have done through social media and other means.  And hopefully for many it’ll mean – in a variety of ways – helping us to explore what community-led housing really means.

However people choose to get involved, we’re hopeful that this first community share offer is our first step towards creating a movement – a group of people in Leeds and beyond who together want to explore creative ways to create the affordable, sustainable homes that we need.  For that to happen, the kind of patient financial support that our community share offer will provide is absolutely vital.  And alongside the finance, we’ll need other forms of people power too.

If you haven’t invested, but are in a position to consider doing so, all the information is here.  The share offer is open until 31 January.
