Happy birthday to us!

Over the next couple of months we’ll aim to answer questions that people have asked us – on social media, at events we’ve attended etc.  If you have a question, please get in touch and we’ll answer it on here.

It’s important, if you’re considering investing, that you don’t rely on information we share in these blogposts. If you’re considering investing, please visit either our Ethex profile, or the share offer page on our website.  There you will find detailed information on the share offer, our plans, our more detailed business plan, and the Rules of Leeds Community Homes.  And of course, if you have any questions, please get in touch with us.

It’s our first birthday today – on 30th November 2015 we were registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as a community benefit society.

It’s been quite a year!  We’re very grateful to the following organisations who have funded us during our first twelve months, as we’ve taken our first steps towards creating #peoplepoweredhomes in our city:

Without their support this year, Leeds Community Homes would never have got off the ground.  We’d never have been able to put in the amount of work that’s been required to develop our first community share offer – a share offer which was awarded the Community Shares Standard Mark.

Through our community share offer we plan to raise £360,000, to support the purchase of 16 homes on a development in Leeds’ new Climate Innovation District.  We’ll keep nine homes for social rent, and sell seven at an “intermediate” price – around 2/3 of full market value.  We’ll ensure that the homes we rent – and the homes we sell on – will remain affordable forever.

You can invest from £100 – and Power To Change have pledged to match individual investments, up to £100,000.  So if we can raise £100,000 from individuals, we’ll be able to access £100,000 of investment from Power To Change – and thus reach the minimum we need to be able to go ahead with the project – £200,000.

We’ve got a Board meeting tomorrow.  There’ll be birthday cake.  And then there’ll be plenty of discussion about how we can make sure we reach our investment target.  We’re over halfway towards the minimum that we need to raise – so we’re well on our way, but there’s plenty still to do.  If you are in a position to consider investing in our #peoplepoweredhomes plans, alongside Martin, Helen and Anne, it would make our first birthday a very happy one.
